Jammu 2 August 2015 : Tension arises in the city of Jammu as it will remain shutdown for another 72 hours Monday to Wednesday on the call of AIIMS Co-ordination Committee. On the previous three days of strike a lot of clashes between the police and local protesters were reported in which many of the youth who were taking part in it got injured.
As people local Police authorities, “Some youths, participating in the agitation called by a conglomerate of 70 organisations, pelted stones at police in Purani Mandi area of old city this afternoon.” Police resorted to minor tear gas shelling to disperse the stone-pelting youth.
“The situation was brought under control,” a police officer said, adding no one was injured.
The bandh that began on Friday morning will now continue for another 72 hours, said AIIMS Coordination Committee (ACC), the group spearheading the agitation for an AIIMS in Jammu.
Business establishments, market places and shop remained closed generally and public transport was off the roads in view of the 72-hour bandh call given by the ACC.
Reacting to Union Health Minister J P Nadda’s tweet assuring AIIMS facilities at both Jammu and Kashmir, Sharma said, “The tweet of the Union health minister was aimed to hoodwink the people. We wouldn’t get carried away by a tweet.
But as per Co-ordination Committee they want a notification stating that a full-fledged and independent AIIMS will be set up and not just AIIMS-like facilities.”
